The month of May has been traditionally called a Month of Mary.
It has been an ancient tradition to hold special devotions to Mary in the month of May. In fact, it seems like the dedication of the month of May to Mary might have started in the 13th Century with the Cantigas de Santa Maria in today’s Spain/Portugal reigned then by King Alfonso X – the king who was called the “Wise”.
